Family sing-alongs around the piano and many years of ballet class are at the heart of my love of musical expression. While self-taught on piano, I learned violin through an elementary school music program on Long Island. God bless the ever-patient, virtuosic Sister Maria Jane who gave me an old violin she found in the school attic — the same one I play today! Transplanted to Southern California by my dad’s aerospace job, I enjoyed playing beloved Broadway scores in the pit orchestras for Dos Pueblos High School and Santa Barbara Youth Theatre productions and more classical repertoire with Santa Barbara Youth Symphony. Since the late ‘90s, Half Moon Bay has been home, where husband John and I raised our three children. I participated in chorus and accompanied on piano at our local parish but only recently discovered the Coastside Community Orchestra and refurbished my old violin. Our spinoff Fret & Fiddle group is my first foray into bluegrass and Irish tunes and affords an opportunity to play with fellow music lovers and kick up our heels at local pubs and town events.
